Ikigai: A Reason for Being - Diagram of the Month
What’s your reason for getting up in the morning?
The term Ikigai compounds two Japanese words iki meaning “life; alive” and kai meaning “reason”.
As the past few months have demonstrated it can be both a challenge and rewarding experience to pause and reflect on this question. It has been a time to reflect on personal values, interests, self-worth, and how we can live life with a purpose.
Want to find your Ikigai? Ask yourself the following four questions:
- What do I love?
- What am I good at?
- What can I be paid for?
- What does the world need?
At Macutex we believe in the importance of everyone having the opportunity to understand and find their own Ikigai. Through our organisational Purpose of Building Opportunity, we welcome and support our clients, partners and networks to join our mission of unlocking potential in places, problems and people with the work that we do.
We hope this month’s diagram helps you reflect on your own situation and to find your Ikigai.
- Satisfaction, but feeling of uselessness
- Delight and fullness, but no wealth
- Excitement and complacency, but sense of uncertainty
- Comfortable, but feeling of emptiness
